From the recording Threadbare Songs
Lyrics
VERSE 1
Greenish-gray and dull, with the ghost of a shine,
Buzzing notes fall flat down its rosewood spine.
Haunted melodies and chords still trying to sing
As my blistered thumb runs ‘cross these rusty strings
CHORUS
Songs will go silent, and stories will end,
I’m scared of the rust, the break, the bend.
VERSE 2
Ballpoint letters scratched on yelllowed paper,
Words and rhymes, and syllables turning to vapor.
Inspired tales that once felt so eternal,
Fading from the pages of this old journal.
VERSE 3
Made of skin and water barely holding together
Cuz’ this cellophane grace won’t stick, it’s too weak and weathered
I shudder at the silence and admit defeat
My damaged heart remembers to forget to beat
BRIDGE
Prayers no longer mending all the wounds I try to hide
I’m afraid that I’m too broken on the inside
